FALLS CHURCH, VA — Cities and counties across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years. July 4 is just around the corner, so it’s time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.

What: Vienna’s Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks

Where: Yeonas Park, 1319 Ross Drive SW, Vienna, VA

When: Friday, July 1, 8 pm to 10 pm, fireworks around 9:30 pm

Vienna’s Independence Day fireworks will be held in conjunction with the second annual Liberty Amendments Month. The event will feature live music by the United States Navy Concert Band, games and fun for the family. Food and drinks will be sold at the Vienna Little League concession stand. Alcohol, sparklers, fireworks, pets and glass containers are not permitted. Lawn chairs and blankets can be brought to the event, but chairs must be kept off the baseball fields.

What: McLean Independence Day Celebration

Where: Langley High School, 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA

When: Saturday, July 2, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm

This event will feature music, food trucks and fireworks. Shuttles to the event will be available starting at 6:30 pm from the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Avenue and Churchill Elementary School, 7100 Churchill Rd, and starting at 7 pm from St. Luke Church and School, 7001 Georgetown Pike.

What: Fireworks on the National Mall in DC

Where: Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

When: The 17-minute display will be held on Monday, July 4 starting at 9:09 pm
There are several places in Virginia to view the show, including Gravelly Point, Key Bridge, and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and Netherlands Carillon. To reach the last three viewing spots, take Metrorail to the Rosslyn station and walk south toward Arlington Cemetery.

One of the main fireworks viewing spots in Arlington, the Air Force Memorial, will be closed on Monday, July 4 due to the ongoing Arlington National Cemetery expansion project.

What: 42nd annual Capitol Fourth concert

Where: National Mall

When: The 42nd annual Capitol Fourth concert on PBS will begin at 8 pm ET, with country music singer and four-time Grammy-nominee Mickey Guyton serving as host of the event from DC
Guyton will lead an all-star cast in a patriotic evening of musical performances by top stars from pop, country, R&B, classical and Broadway featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of premier pops conductor Jack Everly.

Capping off the concert broadcast on PBS will be live coverage of the fireworks display on the National Mall captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.

What: City of Fairfax Independence Day Parade

Where: Old Town Fairfax

When: Monday, July 4, 10 am to noon

The Independence Day Parade kicks off in the 4100 Chain Bridge Road with a route on Chain Bridge Road, Main Street, University Drive and Armstrong Street. Among the participants will be nine high school marching bands, large inflatable parade balloons, floats and clowns.

What: City of Fairfax Independence Day Evening Show and Fireworks

Where: Fairfax High School front parking lot, 3501 Lion Run, Fairfax, VA

When: Tuesday, July 5, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm

This event features an Evening Show at 6:30 pm at the Fairfax High School Stalnaker Stadium, followed by a fireworks display after dark. No children’s activities will be held in 2022. Smoking, alcohol, and animals (except service animals) are not permitted in the spectator area. There will be no on-site parking with limited accessible parking. There will be fully accessible shuttle buses between Fairfax High School and Woodson High School.

What: USA/Alexandria Birthday Celebration

Where: Oronoco Bay Park, 100 Madison St, Alexandria, VA

When: Saturday, July 9, 6 pm to 9:45 pm, fireworks at 9:30 pm

This celebration marks Alexandria’s 273rd birthday and the USA’s 246th birthday. A performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra will be held along with cupcakes, local vendors, live music and fireworks display at 9:30 pm Pets and smoking are not permitted at the event.

Aside from Oronoco Bay Park, fireworks viewing locations will include Center Canal Plaza; Rivergate Park, 2 Montgomery St.; Founders Park, 351 North Union St.; Waterfront Park, 1A Prince St.; Windmill Hill Park, 501 South Union St.; Fords Landing boardwalk, 99 Franklin St.; Jones Point Park, Jones Point Dr., and George Washington Masonic Temple, 101 Callahan Dr.
