Of course, we couldn’t leave out the oldest brewery in “Beer City.” Originally, GRBC was seen as one of the Midwest’s largest and most well-known breweries. That is until 1920 when Prohibition brought that to a halt. Then 79 years later, in the year of 2012, the Brewery opened six blocks from its original location. They now offer a menu that includes not only Grand Rapid’s most loved butchers, bread suppliers, produce, wine and spirits but also includes a lot of the same beer recipes from 1893.

Plainwell Ice Cream Company

We love the history of Plainwell Ice Cream Company almost as much as we love their ice cream. Art and Judy Gaylord first purchased the building that used to house Newman’s Ice Cream in 1978. Art shares that he first learned the process of making ice cream on West Main Street in Kalamazoo at the Carousel at the mere age of 14. This is a true example of a family business as the third generation is pushing forward to carry on the tradition while Art and Judy are as involved as ever. Located in Plainwell, Michigan they make all their ice cream on-site, where you can stop by for a pint or enjoy a waffle cone!
